West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has vehemently criticized the Election Commission (EC) following its decision to suspend four state government officers and a data entry operator for alleged mishandling of electoral rolls. She accused the EC of biased actions influenced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking at a public meeting, Banerjee questioned the legality of the suspensions, asserting that elections have not yet been announced. She vowed to safeguard the jobs of the suspended officials, claiming the EC's actions aim to intimidate state workers.

This controversy stems from the EC's suspension of officials from two assembly constituencies amid allegations of wrongful voter list additions. The BJP IT Cell's Amit Malviya further alleged these actions compromised electoral fairness in favor of the ruling Trinamool Congress.
