Congress Calls for Transparent Elections in Maharashtra

The Congress party has urged the Maharashtra State Election Commission to ensure transparency in the upcoming local body elections. They emphasized the need for VVPAT machines in the voting process, despite logistical challenges cited by State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare.

Vijay Wadettiwar, leader of Congress Legislature Party, countered arguments against VVPATs, insisting that electors must verify their votes for transparency. He proposed using ballot papers if VVPATs are unavailable, stressing the importance of election integrity.

Aside from election concerns, Wadettiwar defended Rahul Gandhi's right to question the central government and criticized judicial comments against him. He expressed concerns over judicial impartiality with the proposed appointment of a former BJP spokesperson as a judge.
