The Election Commission has officially announced September 9 as the election date for the vice president's post, marking the commencement of the nomination process. This development comes on the heels of Jagdeep Dhankhar's unexpected resignation, which left the position vacant.

Candidates looking to enter the race must file their nominations by August 21, with an official scrutiny scheduled to follow on August 22. Those reconsidering their candidacy have until August 25 to withdraw from the electoral battle.

The vice presidential seat was vacated on July 21 after Jagdeep Dhankhar stepped down, citing health concerns. Had he remained in position, his term was set to conclude in August 2027. Under constitutional provisions, a mid-term election grants the elected vice president a full five-year term.
