BJP spokesman ANS Prasad criticized US President Trump's 50% tariff on Indian goods as a 'reckless' move threatening US diplomatic credibility. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized US President Donald Trump for imposing a 50% tariff on Indian goods. BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad labeled the tariff as 'audacious and unlawful,' arguing it represents a major strategic miscalculation by the United States.
Prasad emphasized that the tariff threat would not weaken India — under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the Indian economy has flourished. With a 2024 GDP of $3.6 trillion and an 8.2% growth rate, India stands as a 'global juggernaut' in international trade, he noted. Prasad also accused the US of hypocrisy, pointing out America's own imports from sanctioned countries.
The BJP leader suggested that Trump's decision was driven by envy of Modi's growing global stature. Prasad forecasted the move would backfire, isolating the US economically while India strengthens ties with other global partners and further entrenches its economic and moral leadership on the world stage.
