In a scathing address on Thursday, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee took aim at the Election Commission, accusing it of losing its constitutional neutrality. Banerjee argued that the commission is acting to disenfranchise credible voters in West Bengal, thereby serving the interests of the BJP.
Speaking to the media before heading to a meeting at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's residence, Banerjee cast doubts over the poll body's adherence to constitutional principles. He claimed the Election Commission had overstepped its remit, aiming to provide a political leg-up to the BJP.
Banerjee further alleged that the BJP orchestrates a smear campaign against Bengal, leveraging judicial and media support. He also critiqued the Central government for withholding funds owed to the state under vital welfare schemes. The TMC leader maintained that attempts to undermine Bengal would be thwarted, warning that history would repeat itself.
