In a pivotal move, the Allahabad High Court has provided interim relief to Samajwadi Party legislator, Zia Ur Rehman Barq, by halting the ongoing lower court proceedings in the controversial Sambhal violence case. Representing the Sambhal Lok Sabha constituency, Barq stands at the center of this legal turmoil.
The High Court has called upon the Uttar Pradesh state government to furnish a reply within a three-week period regarding the petition contesting the chargesheet in the case. The following judicial review is slated for September 9, under the oversight of Justice Sameer Jain.
Senior legal representatives Imran Ullah, Vineet Vikram, and Iqbal Ahmed defended Barq, while Additional Advocate General Manish Goyal advocated for the state. The chargesheet, submitted by the police after June's investigative proceedings, accuses Barq of inciting violence through an inflammatory speech, while also naming other key figures involved in the incident.
