AAP MP Sanjay Singh raises alarm over Bihar's voter list revision process in Rajya Sabha, terming it 'discriminatory' with potential to disenfranchise vast voter sections. Singh criticizes barriers faced by marginalized groups, emphasizing the importance of fair electoral practices ahead of 2025 Assembly elections.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament, Sanjay Singh, issued a Suspension of Business Notice in the Rajya Sabha under rule 267, calling for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar. Singh labeled the initiative as 'discriminatory', suggesting it threatens to exclude many voters before the 2025 Assembly elections.
In a letter to the Rajya Sabha's Secretary-General, Singh voiced concerns that the process poses significant challenges for migrant workers, outstation students, and economically weaker individuals. These groups primarily hold Aadhaar cards for identification—documents the government acknowledges but are allegedly being dismissed in the current revision.
The AAP MP also highlighted that citizens added to voter rolls post-2003 are now unjustly required to provide their parents' birth details—an unrealistic expectation for rural and disadvantaged communities. Singh stressed that this action violates Article 326 of the Constitution, risking the fidelity of India's democratic framework.
Previously, Singh sought a discussion on this matter under Rule 267 as early as July 24, 2025. (ANI)
