The Congress State Disciplinary Committee has issued a show cause notice to Channagiri MLA Basavaraju V Shivaganga. The notice followed his claim that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar would soon become the chief minister of Karnataka, sparking renewed speculation of a leadership change in the state.

These statements, made to the media, have created internal strife and embarrassment in the party, which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently quelled with assurances of completing his term. The committee, coordinated by Nivedith Alwa, deemed the remarks a violation of party discipline.

Congress state president Shivakumar expressed his discontent and restated directives for party members to adhere to discipline and avoid making contentious public statements. Despite prior warnings, Shivaganga's continued remarks prompted the disciplinary action.
