On Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Modi government for allegedly announcing a caste census only due to external pressures. He expressed doubts about the government's intentions to conduct a 'true' caste census or eliminate the 50% cap on reservations.
This declaration came during the launch of the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Sasaram, Bihar, an event also attended by political heavyweights like Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, and other prominent leaders. The yatra aims to bolster Congress's campaign against alleged electoral irregularities.
Gandhi asserted that the Congress and the INDIA bloc are committed to conducting a comprehensive caste census nationwide. The demand for such a census has been longstanding among opposition parties, who are skeptical of the government's recent census announcement and its intentions therein.
