Odisha Bandhs: Unrest Over Local Issues Brings Regions to a Standstill
Three distinct bandhs affected different areas in Odisha, bringing public life to a halt as shops and transport services ceased. Protests in Salipur, Tarbha, and G Udayagiri focused on demands for NAC status, action against miscreant attacks, and the relocation of a destructive wild tusker, respectively.

Odisha witnessed a wave of unrest on Tuesday, as three bandhs brought various districts to a complete standstill. In the Cuttack district's Salipur town, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) organized an eight-hour bandh from 6 am to 2 pm, demanding the long-overdue Notified Area Council (NAC) status for the locality, which paralyzed the town.
Salipur MLA Prasanta Behera, along with local residents and party members, led a blockade on the bustling Cuttack-Chandbali highway at Kuanpal Square. Behera expressed the community's frustrations, stating that the demand for NAC status has been ignored for decades, despite initiatives by the previous BJD government.
Simultaneously, in Tarbha NAC, political groups, including the BJD, launched a 12-hour bandh in response to an August attack on local elected officials. Similarly, G Udayagiri residents demanded action over a rogue wild tusker responsible for multiple fatalities and crop destruction, prompting a 12-hour shutdown.
