In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, Congress leader Umang Singhar has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating 'vote theft' in more than 27 assembly seats during the 2023 Madhya Pradesh elections. Singhar claims that data-based graphics reveal lakhs of additional voters added suspiciously close to the elections, surpassing the loss margins of Congress candidates.
Singhar alleges that these irregular voter list alterations were an orchestrated effort to provide an unethical advantage to the BJP, a claim that has now been vocally challenged by state minister Vishwas Sarang. The BJP argues these allegations are baseless and questions the Congress's delayed recognition of purported irregularities.
Amid these claims, Singhar has called for the Election Commission to take immediate action, including freezing the current voter list and publishing data in a scrutinizable format. Yet, the BJP maintains that appropriate legal provisions for objections exist and accuses the Congress of engaging in misleading tactics without providing substantial evidence.
