Controversial Bills Spark Accusations of Political Manipulation
Trinamool Congress MPs accuse the government of introducing bills that could unseat political leaders using central agencies. The proposed bills are criticized for enabling the dismissal of officials on the basis of accusations rather than convictions, undermining the federal structure and judiciary's roles.

On Wednesday, Trinamool Congress MPs fiercely criticized the government for introducing three contentious bills in Parliament. The bills would enable the dismissal of leaders, such as a prime minister or chief minister, if arrested and detained for 30 consecutive days on serious charges.
Critics, including TMC figures Saket Gokhale and Mahua Moitra, argue that these bills empower central agencies like the CBI and ED to unseat state governments under alleged political manipulation. They warn that the legislation bypasses both the federal structure and judiciary, enabling the BJP to undermine democratic processes.
Gokhale emphasized that legal guilt must be established through conviction, not accusation, while Moitra highlighted the perceived threat to the nation's constitutional integrity. Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to push for a Joint Committee evaluation of the bills.
