Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced on Wednesday the nomination of former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy for Vice-President, reaffirming the opposition's dedication to reinstating 'fairness, impartiality, and dignity' in the Rajya Sabha. Kharge criticized the denial of opposition voices in Parliament, joining calls for Reddy's election as crucial to maintaining democratic dialogue.

Highlighting a 'growing trend' of suppressing the opposition, Kharge emphasized the urgent need for Justice Reddy's impartiality, citing his principled career aligned with India's constitutional ideals. Accusing the BJP of exploiting its parliamentary majority over 11 years, Kharge condemned enabling autonomous bodies to target opposition figures, marking new Bills as further threats to state governance.

Addressing the controversial 130th Constitution Amendment bill, Kharge argued it sabotages democratic values by potentially removing Prime Minister or Chief Ministers embroiled in legal allegations. He urged parliamentary support for Reddy, asserting his wisdom and integrity will guide India towards unity and justice. Justice Reddy, contesting against NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan, brings his legal eminence to the Vice-President role, set for election on September 9.
