Tensions escalated in the Rajya Sabha as Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge engaged in a heated exchange during the passage of 'The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill'. Chaotic scenes unfolded as opposition MPs raised slogans against the presentation of the Bill by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Addressing the Chair, Kharge criticized the hastiness in passing the Bill, emphasizing the need for inclusive discussions. Vice Chairman Harivansh responded, inviting Kharge to voice his concerns on the Bill.
Rijiju accused the opposition of disrupting proceedings and criticized Kharge for questioning the Speaker's fairness. Despite the turmoil, the Rajya Sabha passed the Bill, focusing on promoting E-sports and Online Social Gaming, while expressing concerns over the public health risks of Online Money Gaming. The Lok Sabha concluded its session earlier in the day amid similar disruptions.
