Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is making strategic moves to gather support for NDA's vice-presidential candidate, C P Radhakrishnan. Fadnavis has personally contacted opposition leaders Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray seeking their backing in the upcoming election.
The political landscape in Maharashtra and at the national level is complex, with the NCP (SP), Shiv Sena (UBT), and Congress forming the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and aligning with the INDIA bloc. Despite being opposition allies, their support could prove crucial for Radhakrishnan, who is a registered voter in Maharashtra.
The NDA's nominee faces competition from former Supreme Court judge B Sudarshan Reddy. The electoral college, consisting of 781 members, will vote on September 9, needing 391 votes to win. Fadnavis's outreach is an attempt to transcend party lines and secure a win for the NDA's candidate.
