In the wake of a tragic stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is slated to respond to the opposition's queries in the state Assembly this Friday. The incident, which resulted in 11 fatalities, has led to the suspension of multiple police officials. The BJP has demanded the CM's resignation.

Home Minister G Parameshwara announced that despite suspensions and an investigative report by Justice John Michael D'Cunha, the lives lost cannot be recovered. Consequently, the government is drafting a Crowd Management Bill to introduce standard procedures for crowd control in large gatherings. A comprehensive draft is in the works.

The incident has sparked a debate over the adequacy of Karnataka's sports infrastructure. Parameshwara pointed out the Chinnaswamy Stadium's 33,000 capacity compared to Narendra Modi Stadium's capacity of 100,000. Plans for a new stadium and Sports City are underway. The government, traditionally uninvolved in sports, is reconsidering its stance on oversight in sports activities.
