Bharatiya Janata Party's IT cell head Amit Malviya has reacted strongly to Yasin Malik's recent affidavit which alleges that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed gratitude towards Malik for meeting Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed in 2006. Malik claims the meeting was facilitated by Indian intelligence as part of a back-channel peace initiative.
Sharing his concern over the affidavit on social media platform X, Malviya questioned the UPA government's national security measures, calling for scrutiny over Malik's terror-funding conviction. He highlighted Malik's past, including his involvement in the killing of Air Force personnel, and demanded legal action.
Malik, serving a life sentence for terror-funding, claims his meeting with terrorist leaders was misrepresented, particularly following the abrogation of Article 370. He views this as a betrayal by Indian authorities. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court continues to review the NIA's appeal to escalate Malik's sentence to capital punishment.
