The Kerala assembly witnessed a moment of civility on Friday as Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan extended a public apology to state Food and Civil Supplies Minister G R Anil. This followed his previous accusation of the minister 'telling lies' during a heated debate on the spiraling prices of essential commodities.

Satheesan expressed that his remark was made in a moment of provocation and acknowledged Janata Dal (Secular) MLA Mathew T Thomas's observation that it was unparliamentary. He subsequently wrote to the Speaker to withdraw the remark from the assembly records, emphasizing his regret over the incident.

In conveying his apology, Satheesan highlighted his commitment to maintaining the decorous standards of legislative discourse. The gesture was praised by Speaker A N Shamseer, who remarked that correcting impromptu misstatements should be viewed as an admirable practice, not a defeat.
