Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has launched a blistering attack on the Indian government's handling of the recent increase in H-1B visa fees, which he believes points to a broader failure in economic and foreign policy. Speaking in Lucknow, Yadav also accused the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister of prioritizing violence over education.
The former UP chief minister asserted that the Narendra Modi government was failing Indians, who will only see visa relief after its departure. In a significant policy shift, US President Donald Trump recently approved a hike in H-1B visa fees to USD 100,000 annually, affecting thousands of Indian professionals.
According to White House staff secretary Will Scharf, the increase is meant to safeguard American jobs and limit the misuse of the H-1B visa system, allowing only highly skilled laborers who do not substitute for American workers into the United States.
