Japan's Sanseito Party Seeks Global Allies to Broaden Influence

Japan's far-right Sanseito party is extending its reach internationally by aligning with conservative figures such as Steve Bannon and right-wing European groups. According to four party officials, this strategy aims to gain global recognition and disrupt traditional Japanese politics.

Launched amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Sanseito gained traction by spreading anti-vaccination and anti-immigration rhetoric, further bolstered by fiery warnings about foreigners in Japan. The party has seen a significant rise in popularity, aiming to capitalize on voter discontent from rising living costs and government stability issues.

To spearhead its international efforts, Sanseito established an international division in Tokyo, actively engaging with Trump's allies and right-wing European figures. Party leader Sohei Kamiya believes global outreach is crucial in breaking through pro-establishment media barriers and ensuring the party's message resonates both domestically and internationally.
