In a significant political move, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam on Monday called for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Maharashtra, akin to the exercise undertaken in Bihar.
During a news conference, Nirupam highlighted that the Bihar SIR successfully removed 40 lakh bogus voters. He claimed that the voter list in Maharashtra is tainted with numerous fraudulent entries, including Bangladeshi nationals and individuals associated with criminal activities.
Nirupam argued that such practices have enabled Shiv Sena (UBT) candidates to gain electoral victories through illegitimate voters. He insists that a thorough purification of the voter list would reveal these irregularities and ensure fair elections.
