Ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, a Delhi court has brought charges against prominent Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav, in connection with the alleged IRCTC scam. These charges could become a focal point in the political landscape as they face accusations of corrupt land transactions and operational dealings attributed to irregularities in hotel contracts managed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation.
During the court proceedings, Special Judge Vishal Gogne determined there is sufficient grounds to suspect criminal conspiracy and cheating. The case brings additional attention to the political dynamics in Bihar, with polls scheduled for early November. The leaders denied the charges and expressed their intention to contest the allegations in court.
The scandal, which implicates top IRCTC officials and private entity Sujata Hotels, has spurred ongoing scrutiny of the tender processes undertaken between 2004 and 2014. Legal representatives for the accused have indicated plans to challenge the court's decision, signaling continued legal battles that coincide with political campaigns in Bihar.
