On Thursday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called for residents of West Bengal to participate actively in their Assembly elections, stressing the importance of democracy, social justice, equality, and freedom. He encouraged voters to not be swayed by those seeking to undermine these ideals.
As the first phase of elections rolled out, more than 3.60 crore voters across districts, including Darjeeling and Nadia, queued up to cast their votes. Notably, over 8,000 polling stations have been identified as 'highly sensitive' amidst unprecedented security measures involving 2.5 lakh personnel.
The Congress, vying solo, faces stiff competition from Trinamool Congress, BJP, and the Left. The outcomes from these 152 seats could shape the greater electoral battle, with the second phase scheduled for April 29 and results to be declared on May 4.
