The byelection in Gujarat's Umreth assembly constituency recorded a 37.14 percent voter turnout by 1 pm Thursday, as election authorities facilitated voting across 306 polling stations. Polling began at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm without any reported incidents.
The bypoll follows the death of veteran BJP MLA Govind Parmar. His son, Harshad Parmar, is contesting against Congress candidate Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan. Both candidates expressed confidence after casting their votes.
With over 2,45,623 eligible voters, the election process involves 1,500 personnel. Counting will occur on May 4, determining the successor after Govind Parmar's notable victory in 2022.
