The Karnataka BJP has approached Bengaluru's Police Commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, seeking the cancellation of an event supporting activist Umar Khalid. The event, slated for April 28, includes reading excerpts from the book 'Umar Khalid and His World', which has drawn criticism given Khalid's serious legal allegations.
Led by Bengaluru Central MP P C Mohan, BJP leaders submitted a memorandum asserting that the event risks glorifying criminal elements. The BJP stresses that Khalid, facing charges related to the 2020 Delhi riots, represents a threat to national security due to alleged anti-national activities.
The Supreme Court recently upheld the denial of bail for Khalid, reinforcing concerns about his involvement in the riots. The BJP warns that holding the event could disrupt peace in Bengaluru, urging the police to revoke its permission to prevent potential law and order issues.
