A resolution was passed in the Haryana Assembly on Monday for the formation of a committee of the Vidhan Sabha on women empowerment. During the one-day session of the Haryana Assembly, the House passed the resolution which had been moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mahipal Dhanda for the formation of a special committee of the Vidhan Sabha on women empowerment. Accepting the chief minister's request towards the close of the proceeding, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harvinder Kalyan announced the formation of a nine-member committee on women empowerment in the Haryana Assembly. The committee will include five women members, including the chairperson. The tenure of the committee will be one year. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed his gratitude to the Speaker and the members of the House for approving the formation of the committee. The Congress members were not present in the House as the party had boycotted the session. The chief minister said that the constitution of the Women Empowerment Committee in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha would strengthen women in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision. He said that this committee would prove to be a milestone in the direction of women empowerment. As per the official resolution which was moved in the House by Minister Dhanda, legislatures function for the benefit of the people to fulfil their needs and aspiration. Various parliamentary reforms are going on in the Indian legislature. Moreover, Committees are the best platform to meet the needs of the people, reads the resolution. ''...I propose that a new subject committee on Empowerment of Women may be set up...There shall be a Committee on Empowerment of Women consisting of not more than nine members to be nominated by the Speaker from amongst the members of the legislative assembly,'' states the resolution. About the constitution of the Subject Committee, the resolution states that the functions of the committee will be to examine the reports submitted by the Haryana State Commission for Women, the measures taken by the state government to secure for women equality, status and dignity in all matters, and the measures taken by the state government for comprehensive education and adequate representation of women in local bodies/services and other fields.
