Kosovo Calls Third Snap Election Amid Political Deadlock

Kosovo is heading into its third snap election on June 7, following the failure of the parliament to elect a new president, as announced by acting President Albulena Haxhiu. The political deadlock prolongs the crisis in the young European nation.

Addressing the media, Haxhiu emphasized the country's overdue reforms and the urgency to act promptly, as the parliament remained divided and unsuccessful in electing a speaker for much of last year.

The deadline for choosing a successor to Vjosa Osmani expired without a resolution, despite efforts by Prime Minister Albin Kurti to gain opposition support for his candidate, following Vetevendosje's electoral win in December.
