The Election Commission has mandated repolling at 15 polling stations within two constituencies in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, after receiving reports of voting irregularities. The repolls, set for May 2, will focus on 11 stations in Magrahat Paschim and four in Diamond Harbour.
This decision comes after initial polling on April 29 and subsequent allegations from the BJP regarding electoral malpractice within these areas, which fall under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency led by TMC's Abhishek Banerjee.
The Election Commission's order is based on findings from returning officers and special observer Subrata Gupta, who was assigned to verify the claims of malpractices on the ground, thereby ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
