As the counting of votes from the April 9 Kerala Assembly elections began, early trends reflected a promising start for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). By 9 am, reports indicated the UDF leading in close to 90 seats, suggesting a potential victory in the state.
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) showed prominence in over 40 constituencies, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-headed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was ahead in around 5 assembly constituencies.
Data from the Election Commission highlighted the Congress leading in 10 seats, CPI(M) in 5, CPI in 2, RSP in 2, and other parties including IUML, RJD, and KEC each maintaining leads in one constituency. These early trends appear to substantiate the UDF's claim of securing a significant majority.
