BJP leaders in West Bengal on Monday exuded confidence about winning the assembly elections, asserting that the people have voted for change. The counting of votes in the 293-seat assembly started at 8 AM, with TMC aiming for a fourth consecutive term and BJP hoping to form its first state government.
Key BJP figure Suvendu Adhikari expressed the party's optimism, particularly in his re-election bid from Nandigram, where he faces Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating, 'BJP will form the government.' He claimed the support of the consolidated Hindu vote, despite expected Muslim voter turnout for TMC.
State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya was confident of a landslide victory, asserting that the people of West Bengal have rejected TMC. Other BJP candidates echoed this optimism, expecting over 180 seats and crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. The party lauded the Election Commission's efforts for fair elections, believing the results will lead to political 'poriborton' (change).
