BJP's Shankar Ghosh is making headlines as he leads the Siliguri constituency by a hefty margin in the West Bengal assembly elections. With a significant lead of 31,730 votes over Trinamool Congress competitor Goutam Deb, Ghosh is eyeing re-election.
Ghosh, who transitioned from CPI(M) to BJP prior to the 2021 assembly elections, has proved to be a strong contender. As the outgoing chief whip for the saffron party in the previous assembly, his political journey has been noteworthy.
The election campaign brought Siliguri's development into sharp focus. Voters have been highly attentive to promises surrounding the improvement of civic amenities which appear to have bolstered Ghosh's campaign.
