The Congress party is making significant strides in the assembly bypolls in the state of Karnataka, particularly in the Bagalkot and Davanagere South regions. The elections were necessitated due to the passing of veteran Congress MLAs, H Y Meti in Bagalkot and Shamanur Shivashankarappa in Davanagere South.
In Bagalkot, Congress candidate Umesh Meti has taken the lead against BJP's Veerabhadrayya Charantimath, holding a clear advantage with a margin of 17,205 votes. This development is noteworthy as it reflects Congress's strong standing in the constituency.
Simultaneously, in Davanagere South, Congress's Samarth Mallikarjun, who was trailing earlier, has now surpassed BJP's Srinivasa T Dasakariyappa with a lead of 7,916 votes. The bypolls had a total of nine candidates in Bagalkot and 25 in Davanagere South vying for votes.
