Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi trails in Jorhat's assembly polls, facing a tough challenge from BJP's Hitendranath Goswami.
The Election Commission reports Gogoi, a Lok Sabha MP, with 39,494 votes, 19,619 behind his opponent Goswami's 59,113, after 12 counting rounds, with two remaining.
Gogoi, making his assembly electoral debut, contests against Goswami, a seasoned five-term MLA seeking a third BJP term, previously representing the constituency as an AGP leader.
