Actor-politician Vijay's party, TVK, has etched its name in Tamil Nadu's electoral history with a surprising victory, becoming the largest party in the state's political landscape by defeating the incumbent DMK and its President, Chief Minister MK Stalin, in the Kolathur constituency.
This marks the first time a party other than the dominant Dravidian heavyweights has seized such a position since 1967. Notably, Vijay disrupted decades of political tradition and emerged as a key figure, poised to become the first Christian to lead the state, with TVK moving towards securing a majority in the 234-member House.
Despite former Deputy CM Udhayanidhi's temporary setback, TVK's success is creating a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics, inviting potential power-sharing deals with allies like Congress and Left parties, and reflecting a remarkable 34.92% vote share.
