BJP's Landslide Victory in West Bengal: A Political Earthquake

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a sweeping victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, securing 192 seats and leading in an additional 15 out of the 293 seats contested. This monumental win signals a significant political shift in the state, previously dominated by Mamata Banerjee's All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).

In contrast, the AITC managed to secure only 68 seats and are leading in 12. The Indian National Congress (INC) claimed a mere two seats in this tightly contested state election, further solidifying BJP's dominance. Suvendu Adhikari, a BJP stalwart, claimed major victories in Bhabanipur and Nandigram, ousting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by a margin of 15,105 votes in the fiercely watched Bhabanipur constituency.

The elections also witnessed a record-breaking voter turnout, with 91.66% polling in Phase-II and 93.19% in Phase-I, amounting to an unprecedented combined polling percentage of 92.47%. This is a stark contrast to the 2021 Assembly election, where the Trinamool Congress captured a commanding 213 seats with a 48% vote share, while the BJP had 77 seats with a 38% vote share. The dramatic results herald a new era in West Bengal politics.
