Baharampur's newly elected MLA, Subrata Maitra, honored deceased BJP workers by performing a solemn ritual and shaving his head. This act was in memory of party members killed after the 2021 elections in West Bengal.
Maitra accused TMC affiliates of orchestrating the violence, asserting that those fallen workers' sacrifices were pivotal in securing BJP's victory in the state's assembly elections.
This victory saw the BJP securing over two-thirds of the assembly seats, ending a 15-year dominance by the TMC, which was reduced to 80 seats in the 294-member assembly.
