In a significant political move, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of Punjab met with President Droupadi Murmu, pushing for the removal of six Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab who defected to the BJP, and advocating for a constitutional recall provision.
The meeting, attended by Mann's MLAs and ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan, followed the defection of seven out of ten AAP Rajya Sabha MPs, which Mann termed as a 'murder' of the Constitution. Six of these MPs were from Punjab, and their switch to BJP was criticized for undermining democratic principles.
Mann emphasized that the BJP, with only two MLAs in Punjab, now holds an inflated number of Rajya Sabha seats, calling for an end to such political maneuvers. President Murmu assured Mann that she would consult with constitutional experts regarding the concerns raised.
