The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a historic victory in West Bengal, increasing its assembly seats to 207 following a recount outcome in the Rajarhat-New Town constituency. This notable gain reflects a decisive shift in the state's political landscape, as BJP candidate Piyush Kanodia surpassed TMC's Tapash Chatterjee by 309 votes.
This result follows Monday's comprehensive mandate, where the BJP surpassed the two-thirds majority, ending the 15-year governance of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. The strategic campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah significantly contributed to the BJP's rise, marking the party's first governance in the state since 1972.
The BJP's victory, escalating from 77 to 207 seats, showcases a substantial increase in vote share to 45 percent, while the TMC's vote share dropped to nearly 40.94 percent. The party's triumph not only represents a change in administration but also signals deeper ideological and organizational realignment within the state.
