The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lashed out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her refusal to resign following a substantial defeat in the state assembly elections. BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar asserted that Banerjee seeks to remain in the limelight, calling her conduct a "laughing stock."
In a press conference, Banerjee alleged massive irregularities during vote counting, claiming the mandate in approximately 100 seats was stolen. She maintained that her defeat was a result of a conspiracy rather than electoral verdict, thus rejecting any notion of resignation.
Controversy ensued with reports of attacks on TMC offices, which Sarkar attributed to internal TMC factions posing as BJP supporters. He emphasized that the BJP's victory, consisting of 207 seats, should not be marred by acts of violence, and urged for adherence to the party's principles.
