Ceasefire Chaos: The Drone Wars Over Ukraine
Ukraine's announced ceasefire was disregarded as Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack, according to Ukrainian and Russian sources. The ongoing conflict, extending into its fifth year, has led to significant civilian casualties and diplomatic stalemate, with both nations continuing aggressive military operations.
In defiance of a unilateral ceasefire announced by Ukraine, Russia launched dozens of drones in a nighttime attack, say Ukrainian officials. The latest assault underscores the conflict's continued escalation as the war enters its fifth year with no diplomatic resolution in sight.
Russia's Defence Ministry alleged that Ukraine had not adhered to its own ceasefire, claiming Russian air defenses downed 53 Ukrainian drones over multiple territories, including the Crimea peninsula. Five casualties were reported from a Ukrainian drone strike on Dzhankoi in Crimea, according to local authorities.
Despite Ukraine's goodwill gesture, Moscow showed no intention of pausing hostilities. Over 15,000 civilians have died since Russia's invasion began, the UN states. High-ranking Ukrainian officials have called for international pressure on Russia, emphasizing the need for sanctions and accountability for alleged war crimes.
