India and Vietnam Elevate Ties with New Strategic Partnership

India and Vietnam have taken their relationship to new heights by elevating it to an enhanced comprehensive strategic partnership. This development was announced following a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnamese President To Lam, where they outlined a bold $25 billion annual trade goal set for 2030.

During their talks, Modi and Lam focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, and critical minerals against a backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions. The two nations signed 13 agreements encompassing various sectors, including digital payments, rare earth minerals, and education, further deepening bilateral ties.

The discussions also covered regional security concerns, especially the Indo-Pacific's stability amidst China's assertiveness. This visit marks President Lam's first state trip to India since his recent election, emphasizing the importance of Vietnam in India's Act East policy and global economic strategy.
