Historic Saffron Surge: BJP's Inaugural Government Set for West Bengal

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the brink of forming its inaugural government in West Bengal, a milestone that will be marked by a swearing-in ceremony on May 9 at Brigade Parade Ground. Even as anticipation builds, the question of who will take on the role of chief minister remains open. Suvendu Adhikari, the current Leader of the Opposition, is considered a leading contender. Joining him in the list of potentials are state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, Union minister Sukanta Majumdar, and former MP Swapan Dasgupta.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union ministers are expected to attend the ceremony, which takes place on Rabindra Jayanti—a day of immense cultural significance in Bengal.
