Mexico rejects claims its consulates in U.S. are involved in politics
Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday said that it is "completely false" that Mexican consulates in the United States are involved in politics or pushing an anti-U.S. agenda, after the U.S. Department of State on Thursday launched a review into the over 50 Mexican consulates in the country.
"The suggestion that Mexican consulates are engaging in politics in the United States is completely false. What the consulates do - which is their role, just like that of the U.S. consulate in Mexico or those of other countries - is simply to protect their citizens," Sheinbaum said during her daily morning press conference, adding that she has no information about the State Department review.
