In a heated exchange, Padmaja Venugopal, BJP leader and daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister K Karunakaran, has lashed out at K V Thomas, a former Union minister, over claims made in his latest book. Venugopal branded Thomas as 'ungrateful' after he suggested a rift between Karunakaran and Sonia Gandhi over her assembly ambitions in 2001.
The book, titled 'From Kumbalangi to Red Fort,' was issued to commemorate Thomas's 80th birthday. It rehashes political events from the past, including Karunakaran's alleged maneuvering for Venugopal's candidacy, supposedly opposed by Sonia Gandhi. In response, Venugopal dismissed these accounts as untrue, asserting her father's autonomy and labeling Thomas's political tactics as self-serving.
Thomas, who has distanced himself from the Congress, maintains that Venugopal should consider the broader context of his commentary. He insisted the book comprises entries originally published in several Kerala weeklies and emphasized his admiration for the Karunakaran family, extending an invitation to Venugopal for the book's release.
