Uganda's Potential Power Shift: From Museveni to His Son
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has been in power for 40 years, and while his presidency nears its end, the focus shifts to potential successor, his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Uganda's long-serving President Yoweri Museveni, 81, has extended his presidency for another five-year term. His leadership, the only one many Ugandans have known, is nearing its end as the focus shifts to potential successors.
Museveni's son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is poised to take over. Kainerugaba has expressed ambition to follow in his father's footsteps, possibly through constitutional amendment or other political maneuvering, despite an electoral win being unlikely.
Critics, however, question Kainerugaba's charismatic appeal compared to Museveni. The transition introduces uncertainty, but also highlights the military's influence in Uganda's political future.
