The 18th West Bengal Assembly is set to kick off its first session on May 15, coinciding with the election for the Speaker's post, a senior assembly official announced on Tuesday.
BJP's Tapas Roy was sworn in as the pro tem Speaker earlier in the day, marking the beginning of the assembly's activities after the BJP's historic election victory.
Oath-taking for the new members is scheduled over two days, with fresh elections in Falta following allegations of electoral malpractices. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's dual wins necessitate upcoming bypolls.
