On Thursday, India called on BRICS nations to formulate practical measures to navigate the repercussions of global conflicts and economic instability. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the opening session of a BRICS conclave in New Delhi, attended by foreign ministers from Iran, Russia, Brazil, and other member states.
The assembly is critically important as it occurs against the backdrop of mounting global concerns about the economic impacts of conflicts in West Asia, notably disruptions in energy supplies due to the US and Israel's war on Iran. Jaishankar highlighted the current flux in international relations and outlined the central role BRICS can play in stabilizing these challenges.
He urged BRICS to focus on development issues, such as energy, food, fertiliser, health security, and finance. Emphasizing economic resilience, Jaishankar called for strengthening cooperation to ensure reliable supply chains, market diversification, and resolute dialogues on peace and security.
