The rift within AIADMK deepened on Thursday as internal factions clashed over party leadership and allegiance. The faction opposing Edappadi K Palaniswami accused him and supporting MLAs of defying party directives during the TVK government's floor test, calling for their disqualification under the anti-defection law.
Palaniswami, known as EPS, retaliated against these accusations attributing his rivals' motivations to aspirations for ministerial and board positions. He refuted the claims of personal gain, labeling them as slanderous. Meanwhile, leaders like SP Velumani emphasized a need to address the party's recent electoral failures.
The discord has resulted in a formal complaint submitted to the Assembly Speaker, seeking the disqualification of 22 pro-Palaniswami MLAs. With tensions high, police presence was heightened at the party headquarters, amidst fears of escalating conflicts.
