Karnataka Deputy CM Slams 'One Nation One Election' Proposal

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has stood firmly against the central government's 'One Nation One Election' proposal. Speaking at a dialogue organized by the Joint Parliamentary Study Committee, Shivakumar denounced the plan, labeling it a politically motivated strategy aimed at centralizing power and undermining India's federal system.

Shivakumar, who also serves as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, stated that the Karnataka Legislative Assembly had already passed a resolution opposing the initiative. He stressed that the concept is impractical and questioned how midterm election issues would be resolved under such a framework.

The Deputy Chief Minister went on to highlight the varied electoral timelines across Indian states, questioning the feasibility of synchronizing them. He asserted that the proposal is a tactic to suppress regional and opposition parties, reaffirming Karnataka's opposition and Congress party's stance against it.
