Congress Gears Up for Maharashtra Legislative Council Battle

In a strategic move, the Congress is set to contest seven of the 17 legislative council seats in Maharashtra's upcoming local authorities' elections scheduled for June 18. According to state Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe, the party will field candidates from constituencies like Solapur, Nanded, and Yavatmal.
The Election Commission of India's recent announcement of the long-awaited biennial polls allows Congress to focus on regions where it previously secured significant wins in civic elections. Londhe emphasized the importance of maintaining this momentum by supporting allies in the remaining 10 seats.
Scheduled after the overdue civic body elections, these polls were long postponed. The ruling Mahayuti alliance, having won a majority in recent local bodies elections, is poised with an upper hand in this electoral contest.
